Summary

The EU’s new AML framework is taking shape, with the European Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) having finalised three sets of Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS).

01/10/2026

AMLA finalises three sets of Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS). The standards provide further detail on how key requirements under the new framework should be applied. The three sets of RTS cover:

  • Business relationships and occasional transactions: clarifying how to distinguish between business relationships and occasional transactions, and how to identify occasional and linked transactions.
  • Customer due diligence: setting out the information that must be collected and verified, including requirements for lower-risk situations, non-face-to-face verification, electronic identification and screening of politically exposed persons (PEPs).
  • Group-wide requirements: establishing minimum requirements for governance, risk management, policies, procedures, controls and information sharing across groups.

These standards provide important additional detail for firms preparing for the application of the new AML framework. They also help clarify what the practical implications of the AML Regulation (AMLR) will be for day-to-day compliance processes.
